General Memories of this
year (s) group include:
Headmaster for this leaving year was Mr
Hooper, Deputy Head was Mr Hodgkins. Miss Rowland
was also quite prominent on the girls side of the
school. Rob Read was a fresh faced Uni leaver (
Loughborough ) and tutored me in History 'O' level.
The following list were teachers at this time: Mr
Warner (woodwork, made the schools' lectern in the
assembly hall.), Mr Charles (metalwork), Mr Reeves
(craft), Mr Fred Corlett (sports and agriculture?),
Mr Paul Buckingham (music), Mr Sid Oldfield
(technical drawing), Mrs Waddington (pottery and
english), Mrs Jan Corlett (domestic science or
cookery), Mr Norman Barnes (p.e), Mr Kevin Hart
(p.e, geography), Miss Jenny Smith (p.e), Mrs
Eyres, nee Fewson (french), Mr Blindt (maths and
head-banging!), Mr Gerry Peters (arithmetic), Miss
Bogie (commerce), Mrs Sewell (shorthand and
typing), Mr Hughes (physics), Mr Harrow (science),
Miss Valerie Bristow (r.e), Mr Liddelow (r.e), Miss
Collins (english, drama and hailed from Ebbw Vale,
Wales), Mr Humphries (?), Mr Lily (possibly
biology), Miss Newton (geography), Mr Rice was my
first form teacher, Mr Laniardo (mathematics). My
Art teacher was the late Mr Keith Townley, who was
the first person to appreciate my hard work at
school. I was one of a few who appreciated his
guidance and encouragement. He also took us for p.e
occasionally, particularly rugby. I remember
many names of the people I attended school with. I
am still in touch with a few old school mates.
After leaving school I started dating a pupil of
the school in the year below me, Beverly Walker.
Some 27 years on we are still together and happily
married with 2 children. Hello to anyone who
remembers me and I hope the information helps the
website. Regards, Paul Spearman.
