Name:

Teresa Tye (Morris

School Leaving Year:

1961/62 Lower 6th / Year 12

Memory of Edgware School:

I joined Edgware Secondary in 1956 in the annexe in Burnt Oak. The

present school wasn't finished in time for the new term and we eventually moved

in in January 1957. It was brand new and very exciting. We often got lost,

teachers as well. I loved school. It was a stict but happy place where everyone

took pride in their new school and achievements. I was very sporty. I played

Hockey for the school and also did well in athletics. Our headmaster was Mr

Cook, who sadly died soon after I left. He was a really lovely chap. He always

gave me errands to run if I was found outside the classroom for being

naughty--which was quite frequent!I wasn't academically very bright, staying

down a year for my GCE's.I left with one, cookery, but that was compensated for by the good time I had!! I was also a Prefect in my final year.I would just love to turn the clock back! The teachers I remember were,Mr Cook, Mr Hodgkins,Mrs Porter,Miss Noy,Mr Katanka, Mr Buckingham. Others I can see the faces but can't remember the names.Anyone else out there same time as me? Come on, let's hear from you.I also remember the Queen Mum coming to open the high rise flats next to the school around 1958/59. They were a real novelty then.We were banned from playing in the lifts!

Notes:

After leaving school I went into farming which I did for 5 years.Bad

weather, soggy boots and poor pay brought me back to Mill Hill where I went to

work at John Lewis in Oxford Street. There I stayed until 1972 when I got

married and moved to March in Cambs. I had 2 boys. Rob was born in 1973 and is

an Officer in the RAF.He is married and will present me with my first grandchild

this November(2001). Ben was born in 1976 and he is a police officer in the

Herts. Force. He is single and lives in Hoddesdon.I went to work at Tesco's in

1978 until I was made redundant in 1993. I reached the "heights" of Petrol

Station Manager. I divorced in 1992 and remarried in 1997. I had various part

time jobs. Vending Machine Operator at Cambridge Regional College, sandwich

delivery round the Ind.Estates of St Ives Cambs and cleaner in local sports

centre. I ride a motorbike, a Kawasaki GPZ500. I am the original Bikergranny!!I go to the gym and also like swimmimg.I ride a mountain bike.At 5! 6 I'm still very fit and sporty! I live in St Ives near Huntingdon, but wish it

could be the one in Cornwall as I also like boogie boarding and go down there as often as I can. I'm just learning a few turns but the surf hasn't been"up" on my last couple of visits!
